According to the release, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 1994 Geo Metro operated by a Patrick Springs man was traveling westbound on Route 721 when a 2-year-old girl allegedly ran into the roadway and was struck.

An online fundraising effort on gofundme.com for the child’s family had raised $6,905 as of Saturday night. The site, which stated it was “In loving memory of Mackenzie Hubbard,” was created by Mandy Rogers Horsley of Bassett.
