BREAKING NEWS: County inmate dies
Case is being investigated
Tuesday, March 25, 2014
An inmate in the Henry County Jail has died, according to a release from the Henry County Sheriff's office.
Timothy Michael Clark Jr., 28, of 291 Main St., Ridgeway, was pronounced dead at 12:24 a.m. Tuesday at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, Capt. Eric Winn stated in a release.
Around 11:14 p.m. Monday, Winn said, another jail inmate notified jail personnel that an inmate (Clark) was experiencing a medical problem.
Deputies immediately went to to the cell and found Clark unresponsive, the release stated. He was taken to the hospital by Henry County Public Safety staff, according to Winn.
Efforts by the hospital staff to resuscitate Clark were unsuccessful, Winn said.
Clark’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke where an autopsy will be performed later today.
Winn stated that Clark's cell is equipped with surveillance cameras.
An initial review of the surveillance equipment showed no signs of foul play, Winn said in the release.
Interviews of inmates are being conducted, and a more intense review of surveillance video will be performed today, he added.
