BREAKING NEWS: Standoff ends

Sunday, March 30, 2014

A standoff on Pony Place in Martinsville ended around 7:30 Sunday night.

Details on the incident were to be released later Sunday night by the Martinsville Police Department and the Virginia State Police.

The incident, at 122 Pony Place, began Sunday afternoon. Police surrounded the home and kept their weapons aimed at the house. A sniper was on the roof of a nearby house.

The State Police and Danville Police Department armored vehicles were at the scene. The Danville vehicle used a battering ram attached to its front to break down the front door of the house, but no one came out. Later, the State Police vehicle, also equipped with a battering ram, removed a window from the front of the house but, again, no one came out.

Around 7 p.m., a SWAT team entered the house and shortly afterward, law officers started leaving the scene. No statement was made to the press at that time.
