Market to open April 26

A new season will kick off April 26 at the Uptown Martinsville Farmers Market.
The market will hold a grand opening from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 26, rain or shine. The date was incorrect in a story in Thursday’s Bulletin.
Locally grown crops, baked goods and artisan items will be for sale. Free shopping totes will be given to the first 50 shoppers. A ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m.
Also featured will be free blood pressure screenings from Memorial Hospital in Martinsville with a cooking demonstration by Memorial Hospital’s chef, Artemus Brower.
Virginia Cooperative Extension will provide free gardening workshops, soil testing kits and healthy recipes. Visitors may register to win a door prize of vendor goodies and participate in a “guess how many peas in a pod” contest plus enjoy a new patio eating area.
After the grand opening, the farmers market will be open from 7 a.m. to noon every Saturday through October.
The market will offer extended hours from June 23 through Sept. 27; 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays and 7 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.
The Uptown Martinsville Farmers Market, at the corners of Church, Main and Moss streets, is seeking local farmers, bakers and crafters.
