Thursday, May 22, 2014
A Patrick County woman is in critical condition and her estranged husband was charged with wounding her Thursday, according to the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office.
Jerry Lee Clifton, 52, of Patrick Springs, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the incident in which his estranged wife, Joy Biggs Clifton, 48, was wounded, according to a sheriff’s office news release.
Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith stated in the release that deputies responded to an address on JEB Stuart Highway in Patrick Springs at 7:17 a.m. Thursday after they received a call that a woman had been shot.
Smith stated that Joy Clifton was bleeding profusely when Deputies Jesse Pickerel and Dustin Foley arrived on scene. The sheriff indicated that deputies rendered first aid to her to control the bleeding while she was being taken to Pioneer Hospital in Stuart.
Jerry Lee Clifton was located at another residence in Patrick Springs a short time later, Smith said. He was taken into custody and is being held in the Patrick County Jail without bond, the release stated.
