Monday, August 11, 2014

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that occurred Sunday afternoon at Reed’s Grocery on A.L. Philpott Highway in Spencer, according to a news release.

The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the store at 21915 A.L. Philpott Highway. At that time, a white male entered the store and demanded the clerk give him the money from the cash register, the release said. The suspect was armed with a can of pepper spray, it said.

After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the store and drove away in a vehicle that was described as a white full size Chevrolet truck with a Z71 decal on the side.  The suspect was described as a slender built white male, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, 140 to 145 pounds with dark eyes and hair. He was wearing a black hoodie and jeans, the release said.

The sheriff’s office is requesting the assistance of the public in identifying the individual involved in this robbery. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).

The Crimestoppers Program offers rewards up to $1,000 for information related to crime. The nature of the crime and the substance of the information provided determine the amount of reward paid.

The management of the Reed’s Grocery also is offering an additional $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in that case, the release said.
