Probe into death goes on
Friday, August 29, 2014
By BULLETIN STAFF REPORTS -
An investigation is continuing after a Collinsville man died Monday following a physical altercation at a Franklin County go-kart track Saturday evening.
According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Justin Sigmon, an autopsy was performed Thursday on Fred Baxter Lovette, 37, who allegedly was involved in an altercation with an 18-year-old Saturday evening at Providence Raceway on Providence Church Road in Franklin County.
“It was a verbal altercation that got physical, and Mr. Lovette received a strike to the head area,” Sigmon said.
Lovette stopped breathing and received CPR on the scene until paramedics arrived and took him to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, the lieutenant said.
Sigmon said he did not believe that Lovette ever regained consciousness before he died Monday.
At this time, Sigmon said, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the 18-year-old.
“Right now, no charges have been placed,” Sigmon said. “It’s still under investigation.”
