Carlisle School raised more than $15,000 Tuesday night for the Morgan Dunnigan Fund, according to Simon Owen-Williams, Carlisle's headmaster.
As of Wednesday night, Owen-Williams said all of the money had not yet been counted, but that the given number included admission charges for all four games, T-shirt sales and concession stand sales.
No official head count had been made, but he guessed that about 1,500 people attended the night's events.
Owen-Williams was quick to thank the community, including Laurel Park Middle School, for its support. Laurel Park hosted the boys and girls varsity basketball games.
According to Richard Hall, who helped set up the fund with Manly Boyd through First Presbyterian Church, the $15,000 brings the total fund money collected to about $86,730.
But, he said, that amount is nowhere near what the Dunnigans will need. Expenses they are incurring now while living in a different city as well as expenses they will incur in the future (such as having to buy a special vehicle) will be immense.
Back at Carlisle, faculty members have worked together to fill Colin Dunnigan's role as upper division director, college counselor and Spanish teacher.
According to Owen-Williams, Nancy Thomas took over as acting division director and is teaching his Spanish classes. Gayle Jessee took over as acting college counselor.
Owen-Williams said they will fill in until Dunnigan can return to work.
"We haven't put any pressure on him, we know he'll return when he's ready," he said. "He certainly needs to be with Morgan."
After a tumor was found in Morgan's spine in December, she had an operation which removed most of it. She is now undergoing therapy at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore.
Morgan is a first-grader at Carlisle.
