Food Production Technician - Cook


Ferrum College has an immediate opening for a dependable and conscientious cook to perform a variety of tasks including serving food, washing dishes, and maintaining the dining hall. Prior experience in food service preferred.

This is a full time, 40-hour week position, working alternating weekends, occasional holidays and possibly some overtime. Applicants must be able to stand for long periods of time and must be able to lift 10-25 pounds frequently and 25-50 pounds occasionally.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Plant Engineer, this position is responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership for overall plant electrical and control systems. This includes scheduling, planning, prioritizing work, purchasing, employee supervision, supervision of contractors, and training and development.

Job Duties/
Responsibilities:
• Supervision of plant
electrical and contract
technicians. Hire, train and
direct electrical technicians.
• Schedule corrective,
preventive and predictive
electrical work.
• Programming and trouble
shooting on the shop floor.
• Perform engineering duties
that require exercise of
judgment and the application
of standard engineering
principles and practices.
• Investigate/trouble shoot
technical problems and help
to establish procedures and
corrective actions to avoid
recurrences.
• Manage resources to assure
key objectives such as safety
and cost goals are met.
• Provide technical support to
maintain and upgrade plant
equipment and systems.
• Perform miscellaneous
(technical) job-related duties
as assigned.

Basic Qualifications/
Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in
Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of five years
experience in a heavy
industrial manufacturing
environment. Metals industry
experience a plus.
• Five years experience in a
management capacity with
demonstrated leadership,
training capabilities and
ability to work under
minimum supervision.
• Must have significant
experience working with
control systems. Allen
Bradley PLC’s, ladder logic
and electrical/electronic
systems.
• Strong trouble shooting skills
using electrical schematics
and test instruments.
• Ability to read and update
electrical schematics.
• Working knowledge of
National Electrical Code
(NEC) and electrical power
distribution required.
• Experience in Overall
Equipment Effectiveness
(OEE) and Total Productive
Maintenance (TPM) a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and
communication skills, ability
to interact effectively with
cross-functional teams.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Plant Engineer is directly accountable for insuring full compliance with Federal, State and local agencies, as well as regulations and policies. The position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Maintenance Department to achieve an effective engineering team insuring an efficient cost effective operation.

Job Duties/
Responsibilities:
• Direct plant maintenance
supervision. Conduct
performance evaluations of
the maintenance team and
implement appropriate
training programs to address
developmental needs and
further career development.
• Supervises, assesses, plans
and oversees project
initiatives, and development
activities to support changing
plant needs, while
maintaining compliance with
corporate policies and
procedures.
• Provide technical support on
all aspects of optimization
relating to mechanical and
electrical systems.
• Represents the company’s
position and interest
effectively in dealing with
outside contractors, vendors
and outside engineering or
consultants.
• Develops and implements
cost effective inspection
procedures and techniques
consistent with company and
customer requirements.
• Provides consultation on mill
equipment; interfaces with
OEM equipment
manufacturers and vendors
on instrumentation-related
matters.
• Participates in various
committees/team functions as
requested by the General
Manager to assure efficient
operations.
• Cultivate working
relationships with production
and all support groups.
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications/
Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in
Mechanical or Electrical
Engineering
• Minimum of ten years
experience working in a plant
engineering / plant
maintenance capacity. Metals
industry experience preferred.
• Proven management and
leadership skills are essential.
Minimum of five years
experience in a lead or
supervisory role.
• Knowledge of OSHA, EPA,
and NFPA regulations
relative to plant operations.
• Strong interpersonal and
communication skills, ability
to interact effectively with
cross-functional teams.
• Knowledge of project
management and cost benefit
analysis is a plus.
• Intermediate to Advanced
skill level in Microsoft
Office. Familiarity with
Primavera a plus.
