Elizabeth Bowles Newman, 99, of 1001 1/2 Chalmers Street, Martinsville, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at her home.
Norris Funeral Services and Crematory in Martinsville is in charge of arrangements.

The funeral for Elizabeth Bell Brodie Bowles Newman, 99, of 1001 Chalmers St., Martinsville, who died April 24, 2013, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
There will be no visitation.
She was born Sept. 9, 1913, in Franklin County to Emmett Judson Brodie and Callie Burnett Brodie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Henry Bowles; her second husband, Eldon Newman; a daughter, Sandra Bowles Fahey; two sisters, Cassie Richardson and Gladys Divers; and five brothers, Talmadge Brodie, Cabell Brodie, Wilbert Brodie, Ray Brodie and Bernard Brodie.
Newman and had worked at Starling Pharmacy and was a private duty nurse’s aide. She was a charter member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Reginald Lester Bowles of New York, N.Y.; and two sisters, Daisy Brodie Johnston and Jeanette Harris, both of Martinsville.
Memorials may be made to Starling Avenue Baptist Church, 932 Starling Ave., Martinsville, Va. 24112.

The funeral for Elizabeth Bell Brodie Bowles Newman, 99, of Martinsville, who died April 24, 2013, was held Monday at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Billy Spencer, Harry Dalton, John Bowles, Brad Plaster, B.J. “Nick” Nicodemus, Burl Hammock and Elwood Bowles.
