McDonnell to stay on bail as convictions are appealed

RICHMOND — Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell will remain free while he appeals his corruption convictions, a federal court ruled Monday.

The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond said McDonnell’s appeal raises a substantial question of law or fact that “if decided in favor of the accused” is “important enough” to warrant reversal or a new trial.

House fire in city displaces family

A family of five was displaced following a Monday morning fire at a home on Princeton Street in the city, according to Martinsville Fire Marshal Ted Anderson.

The fire department received a call at 9:10 a.m. Monday of a fire at 807 Princeton St., Anderson said. Gary and Crystal Donovant live at the home with their three children, aged 10, 9 and 6.
