Driver in fatal wreck to serve two-plus years

A woman who pleaded guilty to two charges in connection with a fatal 2013 traffic accident on Virginia 57 in Bassett was sentenced Thursday to serve a total of two years and three months behind bars.

Race fans mean business for stores, others near track

Kmart Assistant Manager Judy Graham easily distinguishes which people among her store’s customers in the days surrounding races at Martinsville Speedway are NASCAR fans from elsewhere.

She hears different accents among customers, she said, adding that the store seems to “see a lot of northerners.”

School board approves budget
By PAUL COLLINS - Bulletin Staff Writer

The Henry County School Board on Thursday approved its fiscal 2016 budget, which calls for an increase of $660,072, or 3.96 percent, in county funding.

The budget, which requests total local funds of $17,312,967, will be forwarded to the Henry County Board of Supervisors for funding.
