BREAKING NEWS: Memorial Hospital, LifePoint create scholarship program at PHCC
Hospitals commit $100,000 for nursing fellows program

Memorial Hospital and LifePoint Hospitals have committed $100,000 to the PHCC Foundation to establish the Martinsville Memorial Fellows Scholarship Program, which will provide $20,000 annually for five years to fund six Fellows Scholarship awards, according to a news release.

Family told of driver’s death 2 days after wreck

A Ridgeway man who was injured in a motorcycle-pickup collision on Saturday died later that day, according to the family and the Virginia State Police, but his family said they were not notified for two days.

Kim Jerome Hopkins, 57, was flown to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., after the accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Sandy River Road and A.L. Philpott Highway, State Trooper Matt Lovette said at the time.

Council votes in favor of court fee

A new $5 fee is likely to be charged to people convicted of traffic and criminal offenses in Martinsville.

In a unanimous vote, Martinsville City Council on Tuesday adopted on first reading — for the second time — an ordinance to levy the fee.
