Jurors are set to begin deliberations this afternoon in the trial of a local man charged with first-degree murder.
Lamont Anthony Woods, 23, of Figsboro, is charged in the April 28, 2012, shooting death of Lamar Shonta Ward, 19. Minutes after he was shot, Ward was with two other adults and a child who were involved in a traffic accident on Figsboro Road. No one survived the wreck.
Woods took the stand in his own defense Tuesday in Henry County Circuit Court.
RICHMOND (AP) — A forensic clue uncovered in the investigation of a missing University of Virginia student has led investigators to believe they have “a significant break” in the unsolved death of another young woman who had vanished from the campus five years ago, police said Monday, and perhaps an unsolved rape from years before.
The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corp. (EDC) could do more to market two local industrial properties, according to a city official.
Assistant City Manager Wayne Knox said the EDC is not marketing either the Rives Road Industrial Site or Clearview Business Park, both of which are in the city, as much as the Patriot Centre at Beaver Creek and Commonwealth Crossing Business Centre, both of which are larger properties in the county.
The city of Martinsville has finished developing a second “pocket park” on Fayette Street uptown. The park has surfaces of brick and grass, and it has benches where people can sit and relax. The park is just up the street from another small park where a mural depicting a scene from a past June German Ball recently was unveiled. (Bulletin photo by Mike Wray)
