BREAKING NEWS: Man dies in lawn mower accident

A local man died Friday afternoon when the lawn mower he was using went over an embankment and he became trapped beneath it, according to a news release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Tobacco commission approves grants for NCI, PHCC

The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission on Thursday approved two grants that will benefit the New College Institute (NCI) and Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC).

The meeting, which included the full 31-member commission, took place at NCI at 30 Franklin St. in Martinsville.

BHS, MVHS among top 50 Va. high schools
U.S. News and World Report does rankings

Bassett and Magna Vista High schools were awarded national silver medals in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 best public high school rankings. Both schools were ranked in the top 50 of Virginia’s 327 public high schools.
