Brainard Crandall Goad, age 85 of Henry with his loving wife of 67 years by his side, our papa went home to be with the good Lord early Friday morning, March 15, 2013.
An avid hunter, Papa spent his lifetime sharing his love of the outdoors with his family. He served his country with honor during World War II and continued to serve his community as a Deacon of Prillaman Baptist Church for many decades. Papa spent over 30 years as a logger and retired from Blue Ridge Paint Factory. Known for his keen sense of humor and gentle ways, Papa will be lovingly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earlie and Kayulah Goad; son, Dale (Peanut) Goad; daughter, Sue Goad; grandson, Josh Goad; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Hundley; great-grandson, Conner (Bean) Williams. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Essie Goad; son, David Goad and wife Sue; daughter-in-law, Hilda Goad; grandchildren, Lisa Hundley and husband Matthew, Melissa Broadstreet and husband Bruce, Monica Tatum and husband Tim, Chris Goad and wife Nacasha, Christy Williams and husband Brian, Michael Goad; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Lou Dawson (Joe), Shelby Jean Lawless, Anna Mae Reed (Terry), Carolyn Hogan (Joe); two brothers, Ervin Goad (Bonnie), Clyde Goad.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with Rev. J. Michael Magnani officiating. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
