Leonard Earl Joyce, Sr., 81, of Fieldale, VA died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1931 in West Virginia to the late George Walter Joyce, Sr. and Annie Frith Joyce. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ted Nichols Joyce; two brothers, G.W. Joyce, Jr. and James “Tap” Joyce; his grandson, Nathan T. Joyce.
A lifelong resident of Fieldale, he graduated from Fieldale High School in 1950 and attended VPI Extension in Danville, VA. He retired from Appalachian Power Company after forty years of service. He was a dedicated fan and supporter of Virginia Tech for 60 years, an avid bowler, he participated in numerous bowling leagues in Henry County and Martinsville for over 50 years.
Surviving are two sons and daughters in law, Leonard Earl “Butch” Joyce, Jr. and wife Judy of Chesterfield, VA, Jeff Joyce and wife Cheryl of Fieldale, VA; One sister, Evelyn J. Joyce of Fieldale; grandchildren Sarah, Luke and Hannah; great grandchildren Thomas, Payton and Joel; his companion for several years, Kaye Edwards of Ridgeway, VA; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday April 3, 2013 at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Tim Simpson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night April 2, 2013 from 6 until 8:00P.M. at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son Jeff at 111 Hill Street, Fieldale, VA. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park.
