MADISON, N.C. – Dr. James R. Wall, Sr., 76, of 9573 N.C. Highway 704 E., died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at home.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2013, at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Crews and Rev. Kevin Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Stokes County on December 17, 1936, Dr. Wall was a graduate of Norview High School, Norfolk, Va. He was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran (’54-’58). He was a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, Fl., where he received his doctorate of divinity. Dr. Wall began his ministry at Sandy Creek Baptist Church (Liberty, N.C.) He served as pastor of many churches throughout Virginia and North Carolina and was currently pastoring Oak Grove Baptist Church where he was a member.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Anne Gwilliam Wall and his parents, Ralph Andrew Wall and Vivian Bohannon Sowers.

Survivors include his sons, James “Jimmy” R. Wall, Jr. and wife, Maria, of Reidsville, and Jonathan A. Wall and wife, Elizabeth, of Madison; and grandchildren, Kamryn Wall, John Thomas “J. T.” Wall, and Marissa Wall.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the home of Jonathan and Elizabeth Wall, 2510 Buffalo Rd, Madison, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church, 4543 N.C. Highway 772, Madison, N.C., 27025 or Relay for Life, Oak Grove Trailblazers, c/o Anise Lester, 1679 Reynolds Road, Madison, N.C., 27025.
