Mary Bartholomay, 89, of Richmond, VA passed away on May 15, 2012. She was the beloved wife of Henry William (Bill) Bartholomay.
Born in Carbondale, PA on January 24, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Marguerite Howard Connolly. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry William Bartholomay II, brothers Howard, Jack, Kenneth, Paul, Thomas, and Walter Connolly, and by a sister, Rita Leavitt.
Mary was a loving mother, who also provided constant support to her husband and his career with DuPont Textile Fibers, commencing in Waynesboro, VA, then moving to Camden, SC, Kinston, NC, Wilmington, DE, Martinsville, VA, and finally back to Waynesboro, VA. She guided her husband and family through these moves which included 11 different homes, integrating them into the various communities in which they lived. Her Irish wit and humor never failed to bring a smile to those whose lives she touched. Mary and Bill have made The Hermitage at Cedarfield in Richmond, VA, their home for the past fourteen years. The family would like to thank the staff of Cedarfield, and particularly the Assisted Living Unit, for their tender care and ongoing, loving support.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, Mary is survived by sons, Eric Bartholomay and his wife, Lynne, of Coventry, RI, and Howard Bartholomay and his wife, Libby, of Bristol, TN; daughter, Mary Lynn Taylor, and her husband, John, of Richmond, VA; daughter-in-law, Dottie Bartholomay, of Durham, NC; a brother, Newell Connolly; six grandchildren, Diane, Allison, Brian, Laura, Ashley and Mary Kate; two step-grandchildren, Stephen and Sarah; and seven great-grandchildren, Marina, Sophie, Nathalie, Grant, Carter, Haley, and Cole; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
