Gina Cappellino, 42, of Martinsville, and formerly of New York and Florida, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was diagnosed with a blood disorder at the age of three-months.
She is survived by her father, Salvatore Cappellino of New York and Maria C. Vessella Mullins of Martinsville; three sisters, Anna M. Cappellino of Florida, Luisa Mullins of Danville and Alesandra Cappellino of New York;
a brother, Giuseppe Cappellino of Boston, Mass.; her stepmother, Gina Corsi Cappellino of New York; an aunt, Clare Bonventre of Florida; uncles, Rapfaele Vessella of Virginia and Ezio Vessella of New York; a longtime friend, June Mecheler.
Her stepfather, Jhon W. Mullins is deceased. She was also preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Gina Cappellino and Givseppe Cappellino; and maternal grandparents, Luisa Vessella and Tommaso Vessella.
Also surviving are a number of cousins, aunts and uncles in New York, Florida and Italy.
Gina wanted to give back something that would help people who suffered with similar blood disorders, so she donated her body to science.
A Mass of Remembrance service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Martinsville.
The family will meet with friends at El Norteno Restaurant at the Patrick Henry Mall immediately following the service.
