Mrs. Joan Howlett Cox, 59, originally of Martinsville, VA departed this life on Wednesday, November 21, after a long battle with cancer, with her family by her side.
She was born March 25, 1953 in Roanoke, VA to Maynis Mitchell Howlett of Christiansburg, VA and the late H.B. Howlett. She graduated from Drewry Mason High School in Ridgeway, VA in 1971, Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, 1973,and Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, TN in 1975 . Joan married Lloyd Kenneth Cox on February 14, 1994, enjoying 18 years together.
Joan was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and is survived by daughters, Erica (Michael) Carroll, Avondale, AZ and Emily (Todd) Moore, Cordova, TN; brother, John (Barbara) Howlett, The Villages, FL; four grandchildren, Maxim and Maddox Carroll, Haidyn and Ashtyn Moore.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 25, 4 to 6pm. Homecoming Celebration following at the Sycamore View Church of Christ, Memphis, TN where she was a member.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Wings Foundation at West Clinic, Christian Brothers High School, or Harding Academy, all of Memphis, or a charity of choice.
