Robert Edward Millner Sr., 86, of 1607 Spruce Street, Martinsville, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Martinsville.
He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in W. Va., to Jesse Mose Millner and Emma Millner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Hairston Millner, a brother, James Millner and a sister, Dorethea Schmidt.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Fieldcrest-Cannon after 20 years of service.
He was a member of St. Paul High Street Baptist Church and the Men’s Chorus .
Surviving are three daughters, Veronica M. Groves of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Sharon M. Belcher and LaTanya M. Tinsley, both of Martinsville; five sons, Robert E. Millner Jr. of Columbia, Md., James L. Millner of Buffalo, N.Y., Larry B. Millner of Baltimore, Md., Calvin L. Millner of Elkridge, Md. and Quinton Millner of Martinsville; a sister, Cora M. Hairston of Martinsville; 19 grandchildren; and, 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2:00pm Saturday at St. Paul High Street Baptist Church with the Rev. William A. Shackleford Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 1:30-2:00pm before the service and other times at the home of his daughter LaTanya Tinsley at 101 Ashwood Court, Martinsville.
