Sliver Spring, MD – Charles Harvey Via, Sr., 94, passed away February 4, 2013, in Silver Spring. He was born April 17, 1918, in Dorothy, WV, to Charlie Hardin Via and Ollie Grogan Via who preceded him in death. He came to the Martinsville/Henry Co. area (the childhood home of his mother) as a youth and graduated from Martinsville High School in 1936.
He served in the army during WWII and lived most of his adult life in Maryland. He was a member of Woodside United Methodist Church, Silver Spring.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bertha Rawlings Via; a daughter, Jane Via of Martinsville, a son, Charles Harvey Via, Jr. and wife, Dorothy, of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren: Kimberly V. Hatcher, Kevin C. Via, Christopher T. Via, Calista J. Warden, Jesse L. Warden, Lucas S. Warden, Caleb A. Warden, Benjamin D. Capps; great grandchildren: Kayla Hatcher, Michael Hatcher, Emerson Via, Hannah Via, Alexia Warden, and Laynee Warden.
Visitation was held Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Collins Funeral Home, Silver Spring. A funeral service was to be held at 10:30am, February 7, 2013 at Woodside UMC.
