Mamie Lee Dove Lawson, 89, of 620 Mountain Mist Drive in Martinsville, died Friday, February 8, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Henry County on October 6, 1923 to Harry and Gracie Minter Dove. She retired from Tultex but had also worked for Pannill Knitting, Sara Lee Knitting and Lacy Manufacturing Company. She was a member of the Christian Church but attended Landmark Baptist Church and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Dyers Store Fire Department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Lawson; a granddaughter, Robin Hadgkiss; three sisters, Clara Dove, Mildred Compton and Mary Lena Dove; five brothers, Clifford, Fred, Joseph (Dee), Leonard and Doug Dove.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda A. Hadgkiss of Rocky Mount and Teresa L. Hardee and husband, Kenny of Bassett; one son, Glen Lawson and wife, Debbie of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Rick Hadgkiss, Brandy L. Lowe, Krista Hardee, Anne Morrison, Felisha Mellott, six great-grandchildren and Sunshine’s companion, Faye Reynolds.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. J. D. Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Dove Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
