Curtis Green Newman, of Bassett, died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at his home. He was born in Patrick County to the late Emmett Green Newman and the late Nannie Ruth Turner Newman.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Frank Newman, Eugene Newman, Elwood Newman, Ralph Newman, Calvin Newman, Charlie Newman; sisters, Essie Wright, Clara Smith, Irene Simmons and a longtime friend and hunting buddy, Major Hundley.
He attended Blackberry Baptist Church, was a U. S. Army veteran and retired from Bassett Superior Lines. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esther Spencer Newman; one son, Jeff Newman and wife, Jennifer of Spencer; two grandchildren, Cole Newman and Leanne Newman; his twin brother, Cecil Newman of Bassett.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 6 – 8 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral service will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Eric Kieselbach officiating.
Burial will follow in the Henry Memorial Park with military rites by the Martinsville-Henry County Honor Guard.
