John Warren Hornsby, Sr., 82, of Martinsville, VA died on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Memorial Hospital Martinsville/ Henry County. Born in Sylvester, GA on November 13, 1930, he was a son of the late Clemmie Mae Bray Hornsby and Pat Hornsby. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Kay Helen Hornsby.
Mr. Hornsby retired in 1997 having served as President/ CEO/Chairman of the Martins-ville First Savings Bank. He was a member of the Martinsville Lions Club and the local Selective Service Board. He was a member of Broad Street Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Martinsville and a member of the Thursday Morning Bible Study. After graduating from Boston University, he entered the Air National Guard.
Survivors include his daughters, Tambre Hornsby of Richmond, VA and Laurel Hornsby of Martinsville, VA; sons, Roger Hornsby and John W. Hornsby, Jr., both of Martinsville; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hornsby of Richmond, Cassie Roberts and Alexandra Hornsby, both of Martinsville.
The memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. at Broad Street Christian Church, Martinsville with Dr. Clint Spivey officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 3:00-4:00 P.M. and other times at the home.
