WILLIAM NOEL LAVINDER Last Name     

William Noel Lavinder, 86, of 814 Forest Street, Martinsville, VA died Thursday, March 07, 2013 at his home. He was born on March 19, 1926 in Rocky Mount, VA to the late William Duncan Lavinder and Lula Doris Wyatt Lavinder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dura Ellen Prillaman Lavinder and two sisters, Marie Codino and Sarah Gregory.

Mr. Lavinder was a member of the Martinsville Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He worked at a hardware store in sales and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his daughter, Sharon L. Nieves of Chapel Hill, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Conrad Lavinder and his wife, Phyllis Lavinder of Rocky Mount, VA and Barry Lavinder and his wife Karen Lavinder of Roanoke, VA; six grandchildren, William C. Nieves and Patricia N. Nieves both of Chapel Hill, NC, Robert B. Nieves of Colorado, Jason Lavinder and Jonathan Lavinder both of Rocky Mount, VA and Stephen Lavinder, of Roanoke, VA and loyal canine companion, Lady.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Elder Mark Terry and Elder Larry Hollandsworth officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services and other times at the home.

A special note of thanks to Carilion Clinic Hospice of Franklin for all care and assistants and additional thanks to Jane Critz and Lynn Huffman for everything.
