  • 1 package spice cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 11â�„4 cups applesauce
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • 1â�„3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 container cream cheese icing
Prepare coals for use with a 12-inch Dutch oven.
Chop the apples in the pie filling into smaller pieces and place 1�4 of the filling on the bottom of a greased and floured 10- by- 13-inch pan.
Combine cake mix, eggs, applesauce and remaining pie filling in a large bowl. Beat with a whisk until smooth. Stir in 3�4 cup of pecans and pour into baking pan.
Bake with 17 coals on top and 8 coals on the bottom (350 degrees) for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from Dutch oven and cool for 15 minutes; invert onto a plate and continue to cool. Drizzle with frosting and top with pecans.
