Cherry Sweet Biscuits

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1â�„2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1â�„4 cup shortening
  • 1â�„2 cup raisins
  • 1â�„2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 10-oz. can cherry pie filling
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 TBS buttermilk
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix all dry ingredients together. Cut shortening into the mixture with a fork or pastry blender. Add raisins and walnuts.
Mix together pie filling, egg and buttermilk. Mix into the dry ingredients just to incorporate.
Flour a flat surface and turn dough onto it. Pat or roll it out slightly.
For mini-muffins, grease each muffin space. Roll small balls of dough and put one into each space. Brush tops lightly with melted butter. Bake about 10 minutes.
For large homestyle biscuits, roll dough into 2-inch balls. Place balls onto ungreased cookie sheet and pat down lightly. Brush tops lightly with melted butter. Bake 12 minutes.
