Big chair is at home

Bassett Furniture President and CEO Rob Spilman addresses about 150 people at Friday’s dedication of the big chair in uptown Martinsville. Bassett donated the chair to become a permanent fixture in the business district. (Bulletin photos  by Mike Wray) A ribbon was cut Friday to dedicate the chair. Taking part were (from left) Henry County Supervisor H.G. Vaughn; Garfid Gauldin, who helped design a model chair for workshops; Supervisor Tommy Slaughter; Vice Mayor Kimble Reynolds; Del. Don Merricks; Councilmen Danny Turner and Gene Teague; Fred Martin, who donated land for the chair site; Rob Spilman, president and CEO of Bassett Furniture, which donated the chair; EDC President and CEO Mark Heath; Director of Tourism Debbie Robinson; Mayor Kathy Lawson; Supervisors’ Chairman Debra Buchanan; and Councilman Mark Stroud.
