Above is a picture of the Smith River above Eggleston Falls, downstream from the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton. Brian Williams of the Dan River Basin Association wrote that “temperature and moisture are the main influences (on leaf color) here.” Above is Anglin Mill Road, near the Mayo River. Above is a picture of hillsides running along U.S. 58 in Floyd County.
A trail running along the Smith River on the Henry County side, below Philpott Dam. This picture of Philpott Lake was taken from the overlook. Brian Williams, education and outreach coordinator for the Dan River Basin Association, recommended lakes and rivers as prime spots for viewing fall colors. “Just about anywhere along a river or lake can provide delightful vistas,” he wrote. “Philpott Lake overlook is a favorite spot close to home, as well as Beaver Creek Reservoir with its variety of hardwoods surrounding the lake.” These bright red leaves (above) were seen off River Road in Fieldale.
The picture of the yellow leaves (left) was taken along the Smith River near Bassett. “You can find autumn color anywhere you find hardwood trees, from parks and forest throughout our region, cemeteries, even in our towns ... ,“ Brian Williams wrote in his blog.
