City's new ambulance is one-of-a-kind vehicle

The vehicle was designed using input from members of the department and is unique in several ways, said Shrader. (Bulletin photos by Mike Wray) Martinsville Fire and EMS Deputy Fire Chief Kris Shrader demonstrates the power-load system on the newest city ambulance. Instead of having to lift the cot carrying the patient off the ground and slide it into the ambulance, the power lift system lifts the cot automatically. “That way we don’t have a lot of the back strain,” Shrader said.
