Oktoberfest draws crowds and kudos

Crowds fill Main (above) and Church streets on Saturday for the 34th Oktoberfest celebration. Kristin Kirkman of Eden, N.C., holds her dog, Miles, as she mans her booth selling dog apparel that she made. A pink fire truck from Chesapeake, which is used to raise awareness of cancer and support for cancer patients, was parked at the Martinsville Fire & EMS Department on Church Street. Kelsie Crossman of Henry County tries her hand at weaving at Oktoberfest on Saturday as artisan John Christian, who exhibits at The Artisan Center, gives her instructions. She was weaving plastic grocery bags into a mat.
Youth singers from New Life Community Church perform on Main Street during Saturday’s Oktoberfest celebration. There were numerous types of entertainment, food, crafts and activities at the event. Children watch a puppet show performed by the First United Methodist Church’s First Hand Experience Puppet Team. Lillie Mae Merriman poses with scarves she made and was selling at Oktoberfest to raise money for Horsepasture Christian Church.
