Rev. Junior Wimbush

Rev. Junior Wimbush, with his wife, Avis Wimbush, has been pastor of Antioch Christian Church for 32 years. The church is celebrating his tenure with special services on Sunday at the Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department building.


Elder Leroy Garrison and Refuge Temple from Roanoke will be the guests of Spirit of Christ Worship Center, 4250 Chatham Road, Martinsville, at 3 p.m. Sunday for Bishop Denzell Kellam’s anniversary service.

Antioch Christian Church will have the Rev. Junior Wimbush’s anniversary at Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department building at 11 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Stephen Mahan, pastor of First Christian Church in Concord, N.C., will be guest speaker. Lunch will be served following service. There will be no afternoon service.


Fresh Start Ministry, 337 Patrick Ave., Fieldale, will celebrate its 14th anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday, with guest speaker Pastor Lee Hagwood of Agape Church.


Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Cascade, will hold VBS “In the Wild,” Encounters with Jesus, at 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. All ages are welcome.

Fieldale United Methodist Church, 36 Field Ave., Fieldale, will hold VBS at 10 3 p.m. Saturday for children Pre-K through fifth grade. Bassett Church of the Brethren will have VBS at 6-8 p.m. daily Sunday through Thursday for ages 2 through eighth grade. A meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. for those younger than age 18. The theme is “Giddy Up Junction.”

Mount Calvary Church, U.S. 58, Axton, will hold VBS “Yee Haw: Celebrating God’s Greatest Gift” at 6:30 to 9 p.m. July 18 to 19 and at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 20 for children ages 3 to 12. VBS begins in the chapel.

Jerusalem Free Deliverance Church, 135 Blue Knob Road, Leatherwood, will have guest preacher Elder Marvin Slade and his congregation from Evangelical Holiness Church at the 2:30 p.m. service Sunday.


Mill Creek Baptist Church, 6200 Henry Road, Henry, will hold a concert by New Song Community Choir at 5 p.m. Saturday. A love offering will be taken to benefit the group’s children camp ministry. A fellowship meal will follow the concert.


Meadow Christian Church, 1140 Meadowood Trail, Martinsville, will hold revival services a 7 nightly Monday through Wednesday, with Rev. Anthony Holmes speaking on Monday and Tuesday and Rev. Byron Battle speaking on Wednesday.

Mayo Missionary Baptist Church will hold revival services at 7 nightly July 23 to 25, with guest preacher Pastor Dion Noel of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Cascade.


Kingdom Point Church is having Cancer Survivors Night at 6 p.m. Sunday. Guest speaker is Steve Scott, who is running a marathon around the world, and there will be special music and door prizes.

New Design Missionary Baptist Church will observe Men & Ladies Day at 3 p.m. Sunday, with guest Pastor MacAuthor Meyer of Macedonia Baptist Church in Chatham.

Shiloh Baptist Church, Fieldale, will have the program “Bridle Your Tongue” at 3 p.m. Sunday, with speaker Sophia Redd.

Shiloh Way of the Cross Church of Christ of the Apostolic Doctrine, 938 Brookdale St., is presenting academic and professional excellence awards at 6 p.m. Sunday, with guest speaker Gerald Kidd, dean of students at Martinsville High School and the assistant pastor of the Greater Canaan Land Church in Gretna. There will be special music.

Passion Praise Outreach Ministries will have the initial sermon of Sister Tracy Bruce and an elevation service for JaReal Walker, Shavis Lipscomb and Philipe Plunkett at 5 p.m. Sunday at 240 East Market St., Martinsville.
