EDITOR’S NOTE: The Martinsville Bulletin will report court proceedings in Henry County and Martinsville district and circuit courts, except some juvenile cases and traffic citations other than DUI. Claims in all civil suits are reported, except in custody cases. All claims as filed with the courts represent only one side of the case. The newspaper does not omit any names that qualify to be included. The information is compiled from court documents by the Bulletin.

Henry County District Court

David Brandon Cannaday of Martinsville was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance, gun possession by a non-violent felon and gun possession with schedule I/II drug. The offense allegedly happened Feb. 28, 2018, resulting in arrest July 3. The next hearing is later in August.

Curtis Eugene Sparks Jr. of Bassett was charged with grand larceny-more than $500 (not personal), intent to sell stolen property-more than $500, entering house to commit assault and battery, and destruction of property with intent to steal more than $1,000. The offense allegedly happened May 3, resulting in arrest July 4. The next hearing is in September. 

A judge dismissed but may later reopen a charge of firearm larceny and possession/transport of a weapon by a violent felon against Teven Degial Richardson of Martinsville.

Christopher Allen Via Dawson of Martinsville was charged with assault of law enforcement/dept. of corrections person, eluding police/disregarding police and DWI first offense.  The offense allegedly happened April 22. Bond was denied on July 8. The next hearing is in September.

Duvonte Lamar King of Martinsville was charged with eluding/disregarding police.  The offense allegedly happened April 12. The next hearing is in September.

Coley Wesley Watkins of Stoneville, N.C. was charged with abduction by force/intimidation. Bond was denied. The offense allegedly happened Nov. 6, 2018, resulting in arrest April 14. The next hearing is in August.

Darrell Jason Harris of Martinsville was charged with grand larceny-more than $500 (not personal). The offense allegedly happened May 25, resulting in arrest June 16. He was granted $1,000 unsecured bond. The next hearing is in October.

A judge sent to circuit court a charge of grand larceny-auto theft against Michael Dean Gilley of Eden, N.C. The offense allegedly happened March 4, resulting in arrest June 6.

Brandon Eugene Tipold of Ridgeway was charged with eluding police. The offense allegedly happened on June 23, resulting arrest July 9. The next hearing is in September.

Robert Truman Stone of Martinsville was charged with attempted malicious wounding. The offense allegedly happened July 10. The next hearing is in October.

A judge sent to circuit court a charge of uttering/other forgery and employ as true/other forgery against Brian Vincent Emerson of Martinsville. The offense allegedly happened March 29, 2016, resulting in arrest April 9.

James Morris Adkins of Bassett was charged with grand larceny-auto theft. The offense allegedly happened May 18, resulting in arrest May 20. The bond hearing will be later in July.

Jeremiah Howard Sweet of Martinsville was charged with four counts of uttering/other forgery, four counts of employ as true/other forgery, and four counts of obtaining money under false pretenses. The offenses allegedly happened on May 17, May 18, May 21, and May 22, resulting in arrest July 11. The next hearing is in October.

A judge sent to circuit court a charge of driving after declared habitual offender against James Ralph Crum of Martinsville. The offense allegedly happened June 13, 2018, resulting in arrest May 11.

A judge sent to circuit court a charge of possession/transport of a weapon by a violent felon against Paul Nelson Hodges of Ridgeway. The offense allegedly happened on May 24.

A judge sent to circuit court a charge of entering structure to commit assault and battery and grand larceny-more than $500 (not personal) against Marty Lee Wiggington of Martinsville. The offenses allegedly happened on April 26 resulting in arrest May 27.

A judge sent to circuit court a charge of shoplifting-less than $500 (third offense) against Toby James of Ridgeway. The offense allegedly happened on June 9, resulting in arrest June 26.

Patrick Leopolo Dziewiecki of Axton was charged with rape: victim helpless. Bond denied; appeal noted. The offense allegedly happened June 5 resulting in arrest July 1. The next trial in August.

Katrina Danielle Secrest was charged with two counts of manufacturing a controlled substance and a charge of prisoner possession of an unlawful chemical. She was granted $10,000 secured bond. If the bond is paid, she must comply with curfew, may not leave the state, must avoid excessive drinking and refrain from illegal drugs or controlled substances not prescribed by health care provider. The offense allegedly happened June 16. The next hearing is in August.

Erica Lynette Walker of Spencer was charged with grand larceny. The offense allegedly happened July 5. The next hearing is later in July.

Henry County Circuit Court

Richard Brian Robertson Jr. of Axton was charged with grand larceny and breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny. Bond was denied. The offense allegedly happened Nov. 16, 2018, resulting in arrest Feb. 4. There will be a jury trial in August.
