A person was shot Sunday night in the parking lot of a convenience store at 937 E. Church Street in Martinsville, city police reported Monday morning.

The police department was notified at about 9:30 Sunday of a shooting, and evidence indicates that the incident was a result of an attempted armed robbery of an individual, the police department reported. Bullets struck the building and several vehicles.

One person was shot, with non-life threatening injuries and taken to Sovah Martinsville and subsequently flown to Carilion hospital in Roanoke. The injuries were not disclosed.

The case is under investigation, and no further information will be given at this time, the police department news release said.

Late Monday morning, Brittney Dillard, assistant manager at Circle K at 937 E. Church Street, said the police department had asked employees not to discuss the incident Sunday night.

Employees of Subway, which shares that same building, also declined to discuss the incident.

A window on the building was boarded up.
