He started his career calling in ballgames to the Martinsville Bulletin, and then he went on to be a top editor of North Carolina’s largest newspaper.
Frank Barrows, former editor of the Charlotte Observer, died at his home in Charlotte on Wednesday. He was 72.
Barrows as a child had moved to Martinsville with his family from Lewes, Del., where he was born, and he was a student at Martinsville High School when he first dipped his toes into journalism.
He graduated from MHS in 1964 and worked at the newspaper during summers while he was a student at St. Andrews College in Laurinburg, N.C., where he graduated in 1968. He started at the Observer in 1969.
