Donna Pauline Bryant, 68, of Martinsville, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at her residence. She was born in Aberdeen, Maryland, on April 7, 1951, to Fred and Virginia Griffin Anders. She was a member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church and had been an employee of Hooker Furniture Co. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Pennington and two brothers, Wilbur and Carl Anders. She is survived by her husband, Donnie R. Bryant; daughter, Crystal B. Lusk (Scott); two sons, Scott Anders and Kevin Bryant; and four grandchildren, Codi and Caitlyn Willard, Seth and Ava Lusk. Carolyn P. Drew, was born on January 24, 1933, in Abingdon, Va., a daughter of the late Joseph and Savannah Sales Page and transitioned on February 12, 2020, in Knightdale, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter (June) Reynolds, II and her second husband, Frank Drew. She attended Virginia State College where she received her Bachelors degree in education. She worked in the Martinsville School System for over 30 years as a Elementary Teacher and reading specialist. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Leah (Lea-Lea) R. Harris; her son, Walter (Rocky) Reynolds III; two sisters, Deloris Riddick, and Wanda Tallakson; two brothers, Ervin Page and Kenneth Page; one grandchild, Ryan Reynolds Harris and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. A Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 1 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kelvin Perry, officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive East Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral and will be at her home 310 Fifth Street, Martinsville, Va. at other times. Dr. Charles Bennett Marshall, 92, departed this life on Monday, February 17, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Jay and Mildred Bennett Marshall, and his wife of 65 years, Doris. He was born in Binghamton, N.Y., on July 22, 1927. He was a beloved physician who practiced obstetrics-gynecology in Martinsville beginning in 1957. In 1977, he and Doris became medical missionaries, serving in 19 countries for 33 years. He is survived by daughters, Gael M. Chaney and husband, Smith, of Union Hall, Jodi M. White of Charlottesville, and Anne Shirley Marshall of Ridgeway; son, Peter D. Marshall of Martinsville; Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, from 5 until 7 p.m., at McKee-Stone funeral home, 109 Broad St., Martinsville. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville with a reception to follow. Burial will be private. Deland Richard "Del" Martin of Lexington Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 4, 2020, at St. Mary's Hospice House in Calloway, Maryland. He was born on November 27, 1963, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Janie Parcell Martin and the late Henry Kenneth "Kenny" Martin. He was an easy going man, loved his family, he was the life of the party, and always greeted you with a smile. Laughter was his medicine and he was proud to serve his country. Del graduated from Laurel Park High School, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran Petty Officer Second Class, Aviation Electrician Mate, served on Helicopter Combat Special Support Group Squadron, Red Wolves Iraqi Freedom 2003. After discharge he contracted with the Navy at Patuxent Naval Base in Lexington Park Maryland. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Austin and Essie Martin and Howard and Laura Parcell. Surviving are his mother, Janie Parcell Martin; sister and brother-in-law, Sonya and Stacy Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Valerie and Greg Johnson; niece and husband, Tori and Kevin Roach; nephews, Ryan Thomas, Ethan Thomas, Austin McCrickard and Lucas McCrickard; great nieces, Taylor Roach and Stella Roach; great nephew, Jackson Henry Roach; and step nieces, Brandee Johnson and Ashley Johnson. The memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church, 146 East Main St., Martinsville Va., on Saturday, February 22, 2020, visitation at 12 p.m., service at 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life afterwards in the fellowship hall. Inez Warren Spencer, 85, of Bassett, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Hospice of Rockingham Co. She was born on March 22, 1934, to the late Johnny Warren and the late Lena Lane Fargis Warren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lindsey Warren; sister, Frances Aldridge; and a niece, Kitty Warren Wilson. Inez was a active member of the Blackberry Baptist Church for over 66 years serving as W.M.U. Director, Bloodmobile Coordinator, and taught Sunday School for young children including VBS each year. Inez was employed a number of years by F.W. Woolworth Bens/Leggets. Her hobbies were raising and caring for flowers and working puzzles from the newspaper. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Troy Spencer; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Spencer Rakes and husband, Everett Rakes Jr.; two grandsons, Brandon Rakes and wife, Shannon Rakes and Trevor Rakes; two sisters, Anna Mae Barker and husband, Bill Barker and Shirley Harrison; sister-in-law, Regina Warren, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 20, 2020, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Blackberry Baptist Church with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Chad Janey, Pastor Merle Brown officiating. James Clifford Trent Jr., 84, passed away on Tuesday morning, February 18, 2020, at Pelican Health in Reidsville. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020, at Matrimony Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 until 11:45 a.m. at Fair Funeral Home before proceeding to the cemetery for the service. A native of Rockingham County, N.C, Mr. Trent was born on January 25, 1936, to the late James Clifford Trent Sr. and Eva Gillie Trent. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served from 1954 to 1957 and again in 1961 to 1965. He was a member of Matrimony Primitive Baptist Church and was a retiree of Duke Power Company. He is survived by his two daughters, Debra Lehman of Dallas, Ga., and Teresa Haley (Jason) of Eden; sons, James Trent, III (Deborah) of Greensboro, Daniel Trent, and Timothy Trent, both of Eden; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
