Ford Sidney Thompson, 92, of Clarence Martin Road, Bassett passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019. He was born on November 16, 1926 to the late Sidney Thompson and the late Dora James Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Mildred Whitlow Thompson and Ailene Martin Thompson; sons, Billy Eugene Thompson and Jimmy Ford Thompson; granddaughter, Ryan Elizabeth Perry; brothers, Haywood Thompson and Maynard Thompson.
Ford served in the United States Army during World War II with the military police. He was a longtime moonshiner and was well known in Franklin County for his excellent moonshine.
He is survived by daughters, Kathy Coeburn (Barry) of Randleman, N.C. and Patsy Budd (Scott) of Chatham, Va.; sisters, Crystal Lamont of Matthews, N.C. and Nancy Trent of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Bridget Lawrence of Martinsville, Va., Sydney Handy and Jacob Handy both of Randleman, N.C., Rodney Ashby of Chesapeake, Va.; great-grandchildren, Luke Perry, Kayden Carter, Konner Silvers, Hayden Baker, Hunter Ashby, Alex Ashby and Clay Ashby.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 1, 2019 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where the funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tracy Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park in Boones Mill.
